Microfinance

Overview:
It is increasingly becoming clear that food security and poverty reduction in Kenya is dependent upon the capacity to introduce an entrepreneurial attitude to farming and to transform smallholder farming into successful business ventures.

Effective mobilization of internal (group) resources, successful micro-credit models and proper credit management are key ingredients for profit oriented (farming) businesses.

Content:
•    Forming strong microfinance solidarity groups
•    Strengthening capacities of microfinance groups
•    Rules for giving loans to members of a microfinance group
•    Portfolio and default management in microfinance group
•    Developing group constitution and operational policy and procedures
•    How to elect good group leaders for microfinance   group
•    Management of group records (M&E) –basic financial ratios

Participants:
Small-scale producer groups, loan and extension officers (ToT)
