All training courses can be modified to suit the needs of extension services in form of Training of Trainers (ToT), or directly to the beneficiaries

Module Target Duration Objectives
1. Agribusiness Enterprise Development Small-scale farmer groups and any other small-scale producer group, extension officers, community mobilizers 6 days Equip farmers, extension officers and other stakeholders with the skills to make more informed decisions on enterprise selection and management
2. Demand-Driven Extension Services Extension practitioners 6 weeks Integration of the provision of public and private extension services to the Kenya smallholder farmers
3.Entrepreneurship & Business Planning Small-scale producer groups, loan and extension officers (ToT) 5 days Equip entrepreneurial new-comers with the necessary basics to establish and run businesses effectively
4. Farming as a Business Small-scale farmers and their groups, extension officers, community mobilizers (ToT) 6 days Furnish farmers with appropriate skills and business management tools to enable decision making based on business principles
5. Gender Members and managers of farmer organizations or small-scale entrepreneurs; Trainers 3-4 hour session Sensitize participants on the relevance of gender mainstreaming for their organization; enable the participants to identify gender mainstreaming bottlenecks within their organizations
6. HIV/AIDS Participants attending the main course being implemented at the time 3-4 hour Session Sensitize participants on HIV/AIDS issues in relation to main training module
7. Human Rights in Agriculture Farmers and farmer groups especially women groups 1-3 days Sensitize participants on the need to understand and establish appropriate institutions for human rights in the context of their daily lives
8. Marketing Small-scale farmers and their groups, extension officers, community mobilizers 5 days Participants learn which activities along the marketing chain they can realistically undertake in order to achieve profit and how to collaborate with other market players
9.Organizational Development Small-scale farmers groups and any other small-scale producer group, extension officers, community mobilizers 3-5 days Assist farmer groups to develop the capacities of their organizations to provide services to their members effectively and sustainably
10. Training of Trainers

 

Trainers, multipliers 3-5 days The course shows tools and methods of communication and facilitation in the context of rural/agricultural communities
11. Value Chain Development Farmers, extension officers, other stakeholders 3-5 days The value chain concept can be used to systematize such constraints and identify points of intervention roles and responsibilities of all actors
12. Value Links Introductory Seminar Consultants & practitioners working in consulting firms, business associations, Government agencies or development agencies 5 days Enhance the skills of participants in designing, implementing and monitoring value chain upgrading projects
